Posted on July 1, 2012

Job market news changes every day, and in Connecticut many healthcare jobs are being added as a result of funding, initiatives, and growth.

Alexion Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company, will add 200 to 300
jobs to the New Haven area from 2015 to 2017 as it expands its headquarters.

Alexion was founded in 1992 as a biopharmaceutical startup in New Haven’s Science Park. In 2000 it relocated to Cheshire, where it employs more than 350 workers.

The drugmaker’s approved product treats paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, or PNH, which causes a breakdown of red blood cells and leads to anemia.

There are more changes in hiring for Connecticut jobs. American Cruise
Lines added 22 staffers to its Guilford location. Tronox, a global mineral company, announced itwill be moving its headquarters from Oklahoma
City to Stamford, bringing 100 jobs over the next 3 years.

Renewable Resources Inc., specializing in solar panel installation, brought 50
jobs to Stamford as it opened its United States headquarters.

These will all result in Connecticut jobs.

Terminations and closings also took place. Amerbelle Textiles, a textile mill in Vernon, announced it will close in August, releasing 70 employees. Northrop Grumman Systems, a defense contractor in Norwalk, will close by the end of 2013, affecting 315 workers.
