Infrastructure improvements may create more Connecticut construction jobs

Capital improvement project grants may go towards creating more Connecticut construction jobs.

Over $15.1 million in grants are being awarded to fifty nonprofit organizations throughout Connecticut as part of the state’s Nonprofit Grant Program, which assists organizations with the costs associated with one-time infrastructure improvements that upgrade the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided by the agencies.

Created by Governor Malloy in 2013, the program has helped hundreds of nonprofit organizations across Connecticut with a wide variety capital improvement projects. The allocations are the fifth round of grants since the launch of the program.

“By supporting capital purchases that enhance service delivery, efficiency, and effectiveness, and address health, safety and accessibility issues, this grant program assists nonprofit agencies in focusing on what they do best – getting services to those who need them most,” Governor Malloy said.

The program is administered by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management (OPM).

The round of grant awards include:

• Andover – Almada Lodge-Times Farm Camp Corporation: $145,892 (Renovations, vehicle)
• Bethel – Ability Beyond Disability, Inc.: $774,451 (Bethel renovation, Beckerle Street improvements, Tammany Trail improvements, and information technology)
• Bridgeport – CT Renaissance, Inc.: $347,292 (Central Avenue windows, Maple Street improvements)
• Bridgeport – SW CT Agency on Aging: $243,600 (Case management system)
• Bridgeport – The Workplace: $200,000 (Vehicle)
• Canton – The ARC of the Farmington Valley, Inc.: $903,127 (ADA teaching kitchen, building addition, buses, SMART technology)
• Danbury – CT Institute for Communities, Inc.: $130,681 (Information technology)
• Danbury – MWCCA: $78,671 (Parking lot)
• Derby – TEAM Training Education and Manpower, Inc.: $86,130 (Vehicles)
• East Windsor – Allied Community Resources, Inc.: $281,400 (Road safety)
• Enfield – Allied Rehabilitation Centers, Inc.: $729,911 (Fleet of vehicles, HVAC)
• Farmington – NAFI Connecticut, Inc.: $140,643 (Bathroom renovation)
• Greenwich – Abilis, Inc.: $241,802 (Vehicles)
• Greenwich – Family Centers, Inc. Collaboration: $126,996 (Vehicles)
