ESPN is recruiting for publishing jobs in Connecticut, where its headquarters are based.
The company’s publishing portion and magazine group will move from Manhattan and will be housed in its Bristol facility’s North Campus.
ESPN will be adding about 125 jobs total, bringing its total workforce to 4100.
“We’ve been able to build a very unique thing here in Connecticut over the last 30 years, which is a production capacity on news and information and event coverage that is really in our view second to none,” said Ed Durso, executive vice president for administration.
In addition to the announcement of 125 jobs expected this year, ESPN said it anticipates hiring up to 70 employees for a child care facility it opened last year.
The AP reports that Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy visited the sports media company’s headquarters in Bristol to tout the additional jobs — overstating slightly the exact number expected — and to promise more economic development work. The state’s unemployment rate in January was 9 percent, compared with the national rate of 8.9 percent.
