AT&T cuts customer service jobs in Connecticut

Wireless giant AT&T is reportedly slashing 100 customer service jobs in Connecticut.

The company is also shuttering its its service center in Old Saybrook.

Leaders of Local 1298 of the Communications Workers of America is representing the workers in Connecticut.

The company informed the union that it was cutting one-third of the over 300 phone operator jobs at its Old Saybrook, Waterbury, Hamden and New London locations.

The reason cited was that operator-handled calls have decreased 54 percent in the past three years.

Many are critical of the cuts and are asking that AT&T seek other measures.

The company employs over 5,000 people for Connecticut jobs.
